Antanas Ramonas


Antanas Ramonas was born in the region of Klaipėda, on November 30, 1947. He studied English language and literature at Vilnius University. After graduation he worked at the Museum of Art in Vilnius and was a staff member of a literary magazine. His first collection of short stories, Šiaurės vėjas, was published in 1984. The novella, “Balti praėjusios vasaros debesys“, was published in 1991 by the literary magazine Metai. Ramonas also translated works of John J Berger, Ivan Bunin, Nadine Gordimer, Witold Gombrowicz, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Blaise Cendrars, Peter Stein. Ramonas died in 1993 after an accident at the House of the Writer’s Union. He was buried in the Bernardine cemetery in Vilnius.
