Jurgis Kunčinas


Jurgis Kunčinas – a major Lithuanian writer, poet, essayist and translator. Kunčinas studied German language and literature at Vilnius University. He wrote seven novels, including Glisono kilpa (1992), Tūla (1993), Blanchisserie, arba Žvėrynas-Užupis (1997) and others. He also wrote radio plays as well as movie scripts and published several collections of poetry and short stories. He translated from German to Lithuanian works of W. Borchert, H. Böll, R. Musil, H. Fallada, H. Broch, E. Canetti, I. Bachmann, M. Reich-Ranick, F. Dürrenmantt and others. Kunčinas died in Vilnius on December 13, 2002; His work has been translated to several foreign languages, including, English, Russian, Swedish, Belorussian, Latvian, Estonian, German and many others. In 2004, film director Agnė Marcinkevičiūtė made documentary Beveik laimingas (Almost Happy) about Kunčinas life and his work.
